I find it frustrating when the denouement of a crime thriller requires knowledge that could not possibly have been known or inferred until it is disclosed at the end. The killer’s nature from which you could deduce the solution was completely hidden until right at the end. And the earlier death teaser another irritating red herring. I’ve loved Harper’s other books but the plotting on this one just didn’t stand up. Still well written and evocative of country Australia. So 5/10 for that.
