Definitely recommended. It’s hard to put into words that describe the depth of this anime. I’ll try to put it into perspective though.
1.) Animation Style
The use of bold lines and cool colors in the hospitals and in faces really elaborates on emotion. Most anime is very clean and smooth (Demon Slayer, My Hero, etc..), but the rustic style compliments the futuristic setting. The Evangelions are drawn very well, and each angel has a different look to it.
2.) Emotion
(Might get into movie “End Of Evangelion.”)
Rei, Asuka, and Shinji’s backstories really have an impact on the series. The pilots are all mentally unstable for the most part, and in Episode 26, we get to see how their worlds would like to be. In Kawaru’s death, it talks about Adam and Lilith, and how only one species can survive (humans or angels.) Shinji quickly destroys Kawaru, leaving him astonished. In “End Of Evangelion,” as Shinji is flying in the air, he sees a dead Unit-3 Eva, and screams at the sight. Apart from mostly the main characters, Katsuragi also is one of my favorite stories. Her loss of her absent father left her mute for 2 years, desolate after a mass explosion in the Antarctic occurred, blasting everything. There’s also various breakfast scenes that massage the tense-ness in the anime by countering it with silliness.
3.) Relations
All the characters have their different relations with each other and respect it for the most part. For example, when ever Shinji and Rei talk, it makes Asuka angry, as her state of mind is always longing for attention. There’s also the absent dads like Shinji, Katsuragi, and Asuka.
Honestly, it was hard to put this anime into words. Although I don’t recommend it for people who are new to anime or don’t like dense anime, at least try watching it once.
