There were moments in this drama where I felt like I wanted to stop watching. I would assume the cheating scene didn't sit well with most people. At first, I thought the show somehow normalizes cheating but it really isn't. One way or another, each character will suffer the consequences of their actions. In a way, everyone was cheating, whether through physical intimacy or cheating their own feelings.
I think what is really appealing in this drama is the realism in the characters. Humans are complex, hard to understand, and behave in ways they may not understand themselves. I also like the slow pace of this drama and unusual plot line. This sort of linear flow of events we expect as viewers doesn't exist, we are always left wondering what the next move will be.
I can understand why certain people rated this drama poorly, it is an uncommon plotline that only certain individuals can enjoy and reconcile with. Love isn't perfect, people aren't perfect, nothing in life is perfect. We are all beings full of imperfections that lead a journey towards understanding ourselves, those we love, and certainly trying to feel at peace with our and other people's imperfections.
Lastly, I really resonate with Su-young. She is crippled with overthinking, indecisiveness, and uncertainty. To love someone is to give a precious part of yourself to another person, and to give that part genuinely, you need to resolve your own insecurities so you don't hurt that person. The mean lead is like 'the one who got away' if he were to not end up with Su-young. He is the unfiltered, unapologetic, decisive and understanding man every woman would like and would regret if he were to be the one that got away. He runs towards love at full speed and knows when to press the break when needed whereas Su-young goes at lower speed at all times. Opposites attract however.
I don't know how the show will end but I will reconcile with whichever ending that may be.
