The running joke of constant Robinson peril and family bonding is played to good effect by use of Macgyver like ingenuity and pretty good action sequences. There is sparse breaking-of-the -4th-wall humor but not to the point of being obvious or obnoxious. The Boy and his Robot theme remains from the 60s show but little else remains. These characters are fully fleshed people, the children are not just waiting around to be rescued, and The Robot is presented in a novel way.
The expansion of the story to include other characters beyond the core cast did not distract from Robinson story arch as much as enhance it.
And if lots of dialog is not your thing, then you may find it sometimes tedious. And the 'hard science' approach to problem solving is something you will either love or hate. But the core appeal of this show to me is Parker Posey's total revamp of the Dr Smith character.
