Tales of the west told through vignettes of storylines. It can be a bit choppy and chaotic segway between these chapters, but maybe that is what was intended. At first, each seem unrelated but I think it will take patience to see how unfolds through this episodic story telling over course of 4 planned releases and as each story converges and intersects on Horizon. Some may balk at length, but I didn't mind the time it took to unfold parts of each story. To me, it went quickly. I think the main takeaway for me was life was harsh and took strong willingness to risk it all in deciding to undertake the life of a western settler. It briefly touches on the encroachment of indigenous life and the lack of security of living in an unprotected, uncivilized area without laws and government. In a way, it refutes oversimplification of colonization as just took over without sacrifice, danger, or failure. Some of the cinematography is breathtaking like Wyoming territory. Some is gritty to set the tone that life could be brutal and unforgiving to those that dared to try moving into this wilderness. Flashes of scenes at end from the next installment are a preview of what's in the next episode as it is finished and coming soon. I saw enough good stories begin in the first one to say I will see the next one. It was good enough installment to look forward to part 2.
