Saw it last night and came out unsure about how I felt about it.
Beautiful scenery made for effective juxtaposition of what had happened in such a setting. Acting was excellent, especially given wide range of acting experience. Story of how choices are limited, often difficult, and involve major tradeoffs made sense
On other hand, the language used in the film is far beyond what would be used by women without any education. It would have made more sense to use wording that could illustrate that constraint in trying to find words to express their thoughts and feelings. While I recognize that abuse is rooted in and sustained in systems of oppression I have a big problem with putting all men into the same category. "Are 13 and 14 year old boys dangerous" - false dichotomy. Also persons with disabilities can be abusers, so once again thrown into a single category, in this case reinforcing the "disabled-angelic" stereotype. While the final decision was brave I am a practical person and thoughts of logistics kept coming up - where, with what, how, and so on. Brought to mind pioneers setting out across the West with inadequate supplies and dying on the trail.
Fell asleep once but had had little sleep the night before and a long day.
Agree with previous commenter - would have made an excellent play.
