Once again the film industry showed that they were unaware of what music young people were interested in. Jazz in Britain has always been a middle class sport and not appreciated by the predominant working classes. Trad had a brief assault on the hit parade in the early Pre-Beatles sixties but again this was not a working class movement. The gulf is particularly shown in "That will be the Day" with David Essex where the film industry seem to get it right although this is somewhat with hindsight. I enjoyed the film Jazz Boat shown recently on Talking Pictures. I did not see it when it was released although at that time I was a regular at the cinema (at least twice a week in the late fifties and sixties). I think the word "Jazz" would have killed it for me.
