I think the tendency when we encounter a movie with more modern and inclusive ideals, is to simply try and love it for its inclusivity.
Enola Holmes is a fresher take on the female hero, instead of being stoic and unfeeling, Enola displays her emotions openly, rides the line elegantly between boyish and refined femininity, and isn't afraid to express herself.
That being said, instead of simply making her the equal to the ever talented Sherlock Holmes, they match them with wit and talent by making Sherlock somewhat fumbling, and inept. I feel like that seems less like inclusivity, and more like a handout towards female heroes.
Also, while it's not uncommon for heroes or main characters to narrate throughout the movie, and even break the fourth wall to look at the camera, the character Enola spends so much time winking and nodding at the camera throughout the movie, it feels like Jim from the office giving us the eyebrows.
While it was a fun movie, I felt like they couldn't quite pin down what they were trying to do.
