I mean, I'm going back a bit now but the last time read this anthology for English A level was in '88, I was too young to really appreciate the horrors of war through downbeat prose and Rambo had just come out on VHS so there was a crash course on how to survive against all odds and fire power right there to fuel my limited imagination. Having said that, the line "Gas ! Gas ! , quick boys" always sticks in my mind. A year later in 89' I went back to Wilfred just as Blackadder Goes Forth came on the telly in '89 and I've not thought about his work since - ! 'Gas Gas, ! Quick Boys'
