Ms. Alexander is straightforward and lays out the evidence to support her premise that the criminal justice system is constructed to ensure that African American males are funneled into the system never to emerge to lay claim to the American dream. Moreover, every American institution--health, education, housing, financial and employment is set into motion to ensure that ex-convicts remain oppressed and powerless through the mechanisms of legitimate policies, laws, and regulations.
