There were aspects of this book that I liked. There is a 70s era criminal trial which was very believable. I felt that the townspeople of a small community in North Carolina were well-drawn. But the premise, that a seven-year-old child could basically raise herself and live alone in a swamp with very little help from adults simply did not seem credible to me.
