The book is terrible. There's no real story or plot. I read it my freshman year in high school and not a single person liked the book. It's literally about two best friends at an all boys school during WW2. One of them pushes them off a tree branch and breaks their leg and it's just a never ending, I guess you could say conflict, between the two boys. The book is just flat out ridiculous and a pure waste of time. I hope to God they stop reading it in school because it's piss poor. If you want to read a book about this dude breaking his leg because of his best friend, then go for it. Otherwise, you'll more than likely hate this book like me and every other student in my class 3 years ago. Even my AP English junior year teacher thinks it's stupid. I'm astonished by the fact that this book even won an award way back when.
