For people who are watching it for the first time, I’d say keep in mind the era of film in which it was made, so even if you feel dragged screenplay you need to have a little patience. But once you get pass to that, there are things that is almost unimaginable. A story narrative of such that was yet to be properly introduced to the world, happened in bengali cinema. Characters with no melodrama, nor the screen play. A story so liquid that a star like Uttam Kumar does not have enough presence for the better half of the film. A narrative that does not bow down to protagonistic culture. Performance of Anjana Bhowmik and Utpal Dutta, apart from rest of the cast. Aspects, such bold that even contemporary makers will sweat to put it on screen. Which includes, polygamy of protagonist’s mother. Female protagonist being the saviour of the male protagonist (contrary to the century old ‘Pretty Woman’ culture), and do watch this if not last then least for the part when he says “Always remember there is a counter between you and and the guest”....
