Great show. One of my all-time favorites. Very believable, and felt sure the whole time that very similar things took place at that time and in that land. Great performances by all actors including the supporting roles.

Very creative and very original. Meral Okay was probably the best screenwriter Turkey had. Outstanding performances by all, especially Engin Akyurek. I think this was his best performance, and he is always a great actor. Great background, the ancient city of Mardin near the Syrian border. I can watch it over and over.

It is a very original story, based on ancient customs still existing in the hinterland of Turkey which are vanishing fast as time goes on. They deal with strong convictions, strong feelings, and deep passions, involving a love story which is challenged not only by ancient customs but also by evil actors. The heroine, while a victim of circumstances, is also the strongest of the characters who will fight for her love against all the obstacles.

Roma is a masterpiece. It's not easily accessible, but a film that stays with you for a long time, as little things that seemed trivial at first begin to make enormous sense after a while, both in the real world as well as symbolically. The understated acting is flawless, especially by its leading actress. This is cinema as art, not just as mindless entertainment or diversion. We so need more of this.
