I agree with all the reviews below. The first time I watched this I immediately recognised the landscape as Avalon, or anywhere near Sydney, but north and coastal. This 'Montery' is a cooler, ethereal version, populated with extremely talented American actors, playing universal characters living just like some Australians I know really do. We really do.
The SUVs, the school drop off, the constant hiss of the waves, caress of the wind and shifting patina of light. The opening credits include a sweeping interpretation of the Bends - that rubicon that separates City from another realm - our inner selves that all inhabit the same dark wilderness.
