It was okay. I mean pride and prejudice with Keira knightly is by far my favorite adaption, and the new Emma was great. This movie wasn’t horrible. And it wasn’t bland like sense and sensibility, but it wasn’t great. It could’ve been great with less modern language added in. I feel like these movies are made to suck you into janes world. And every inclusions of things like “he’s a 10” or “we were worse than exes, we were friends” just jerked me right back out of the regency era and into 2022. I think Dakota Johnson did well, I didn’t care for some of the other cast (a certain male character always looked constipated) or the unnecessary inclusion of discreet sex tours. Jane was already so ahead of her time, why do we need to add excess progressive themes like sex tours, to a movie based on a novel by an extremely progressive woman. I would probably watch it again for background noise, but it’s not a timeless classic like pride and prejudice.
