It's a predecessor to the OP protagonist types that we see so commonly nowadays. It is in a sense hero-worship, where the hero exemplifies a certain lifestyle, a certain way of going about in the world and the antagonist exemplifies the exact opposite. And their inner values clash leading up to the conclusion when both want the same thing yet go about it opposite ways. Though it does have its weakpoints (especially "that" at the end of S1) overall the narrative is good: OP postmodern protagonist versus shakesperean antagonist. And Sawano's music makes this conflic all the more visceral.
