As a ni-sei Japanese American being raised in the 70's, Japanese entertainment was far and few in between. What little Japanese movies I could find, I would relish.
I've been a big fan of Shintaro Katsu's Zatoichi movies for decades.
Takeshi Kitano's version of Zatoichi was new and different. Unique in many ways. One of the unique aspects of this version of Zatoichi was he could actually see.
Another nice surprise was the tap dancing at the end of the movie. Takeshi Kitano is known for his tap dancing, so I was delighted to see tap dancing in this movie, but disappointed because Takeshi Kitano did not do any tap dancing.
