What We Do For Entertainment At The Expense of Others
The premise of this film is the reason I cannot watch it anymore. The tragedy of the RMS Titanic isn't a love story for some egomaniac director to make billions from, but that is what happened. I was very fond of this film when it was released in December of 1997. So, I take responsibility for adding to its box office numbers. I also take responsibility for my part in viewing it so many times and drinking Cameron's "kool-aid". This film is a complete disrespect to the victims of the RMS Titanic disaster. This isn't a homage of any kind, nor is it a dedication to their memories. It was a Cameron vehicle to further flourish his film career - and further that career it did while at the same time making him and the studio heads involved very, very rich!
What I learned from this, is to be very careful of who you give your money too, and what that money is supporting. The death of thousands shouldn't be a love story premise to entertain love sick, fickle movie goers. If you're going to make a homage or dedication to an event in film then it must have a semblance of truth to its main characters. There is no truth to Jack and Rose because they never existed. This isn't a homage, just a cash grab - and a disrespectful one at that!
