Beautifully shot, with splendid visuals and use of color. But just a huge mess of a plot with zero connection to its predecessor, outside of character names. Ratched does nothing to bridge the gap between Nurse Ratched origin story to eventually become Ken Kersey’s Nurse Ratched in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. Character decisions are random and volatile, having no real foothold in their personalities. Decisions are made spur of the moment in ways that contradict everything the show has been supposedly leaning towards, in ways that leave you confused and unconvinced. The beautiful visuals do not make up for the swiss cheese that is this plot and character development, and I hope people really begin to hold shows like this more accountable because it could have really been something special had the show runners not blown so much air up it’s arse.
