The science fiction landscape of the last few years have been steadily moving outward: magnanimous stories; huge spectacles with lofty plots and specials effects. Arrival goes steadily inward as the audience is drawn into Louise's life and finally the audience is challenged to question their own life and our decisions within it.
Arrival is a beautiful work; deserving of it's praise and then some. It has just as much humanity as it does science fiction and the sophistication of it's linear/non-linear storytelling is like no other --- even Tarantino. Being Canadian I'm quite to proud to say that Denis Villeneuve is one of those rare Canadian filmmakers that will be that deserve worldwide acclaim.
I'm going to rewatch this movie now.
