I couldn't finish this book. It wasn't all terrible, but the character interactions just felt forced and awkward enough that I just had to quit.
Potential spoilers below:
I have issues with Kya, being precocious enough to learn to survive on her own without her family from a young age, but needing protection from Tate from the other boys in the village. He also mentions a few times about the childishness of Kya, but still proceeds with a romantic relationship with her, despite the fact that he is also technically taking advantage of her too. Between him acknowledging the potential inappropriateness of their relationship, her naivete, and the savior role he seems to play, it just didn't add up to me and made me feel awkward.
