Judging by some of these reviews, some people will like anything. I couldn't make it through episode two. It was so stupid, unrealistic and illogical.
SPOILERS!!!
Obviously this is supposed to take place in the future (I don't believe they ever tell you the year). Today we have satellites, a space station and countless telescopes scanning the heavens for anything and everything. But in this show, a conspicuous alien space ship makes it all the way down to the Earth's surface (slowly) with nobody noticing but a self-absorbed talk show host.
This visitation spawns an outer space mission to look for the origin of this vessel. The crew is comprised of a rag tag collection of young and scantily clad, "so called experts" that apparently have no mission training. They cannot work together. They immediately start fighting, arguing, whining and complaining . . . Why are they even on this mission? What happened to the rigorous application, screening, analysis and training process all astronauts have to go through? What about the strict protocol and chain of command?
The mission commander is quickly a victim of a mutiny headed by the guy the sponsers said they had no confidence in. (Can you imagine NASA, the military, or any space program doing things like this?)
Inevitably the mutinous second in command almost destroys the ship so the appointed lead is "resuscitated" to rescue the crew --- which she does. Then when they are alone, the second in command threatens the lead commander. So in the process of defending herself, he dies. Obvious self-defense. But she never says that. She just says, "I killed him." No explanation why.
This leads to a split in support from her crew. Half which think she was justified. Half which think she is a murderer . . . This is obvious contrivance. All this melodrama could be avoided if she would just tell them it was self-defense. But for some reason, she won't --- probably just bad writing.
It's not enough conflict that possibly humankind is threatened by mysterious aliens. We have to have the most annoying group of childish, incompetent morons trying to save the world, behaving like the family from hell on vacation.
Terrible. And that was just the first episode and a half.
