Spoilers
It’s unfathomable how anyone could find this to be a bad game. Randomly killing off a beloved character for shock value is objectively great writing. Especially when you consider that the character that kills our beloved character is so well established. This is the death we wanted for Joel.
The character decision making of this game makes perfect sense. We all know that having giant plot holes is not good for a story. This game doesn’t have any of those but it is filled with what I like to call plot craters. You know those moments that not only don’t make sense but also require a complete change in personality of a character. It’s objectively good writing.
The game's portrayal of LGBTQ individuals is spot on. Abby, the implied trans girl, is a murderous psychopath. My sister is trans and she is just like that. Dina, Ellies bisexual girlfriend cheats on her boyfriend with Ellie because she is conflicted by her bisexuality. We all know that bisexual indivuals have trouble remaining faithful because they’re attracted to both genders. What an accurate and positive portrayal of LGBTQ individuals. It was amazing to watch Neil Cuckmanns mocap sex scene with Abby, the trans girl. It was such a necessary progression to the story, if it hadn't happened the entire story would have changed.
Anyone who has a gripe with this games story and character decision making is clearly homophobic and transphobic since the story and character decision making is perfect. Not to mention this game's completely positive portrayal of LGBTQ individuals, it makes it so obvious that these negative reviewers are homophobic even when not having mentioned LGBTQ characters.
At no point was this game ever needlessly violent or graphic. I would have no problem with letting my children play this game, it’s M rating is clearly only because the rating system is biased against LGBTQ individuals. By the end of the game I wasn’t at all near being completely numb to the violence. I definitely had a huge emotional response to the field of crucified people on scorched earth as shock value is definitely the best storytelling tool and at no point gets overused. I was honestly brought to tears by the end of this game. Hundreds of people are needlessly dead just for the life of our beloved psychopathic trans character to be saved, so beautiful and full of meaning. The last of us 2 is a story that will always remain close to my heart, god bless.
