I am torn. As someone in the helping profession I realize that this movie reinforces many stereotypical views of those challenged with mental health disorders. The severe abuse history and violent nature? All false representations. About the only thing they got right was the societal invisibility, funding cuts and overall oppression. Pair that up with the likelyhood of victimization and you have our current climate. But I get it! It's a movie. The acting was simply phenomenal! I am in awe of the depiction of suffering. I could have wept many times as if I felt the pain of the Joker for myself. Great film!
