All of Woodrell's novels I've read so far are raw, bleak and often unsettling. This one has an added element of disgust that I won't spoil for you. Not his best, but right there with Tomato Red and Winter's Bone.

Powerful and disturbing yet the writing is often passive when detailing horrific acts of cruelty and violence. A true look into the young mind of a sociopathic serial killer.

This was a very original film. Very well acted filled with suspense and drama. It begins confusing but it all comes together by the end. It haunted me for a day or two afterwards. The only downfall is the super annoying score.

Full of plot holes. Dark and whispery. Violent and sometimes gory. But I was intrigued the entire film. I'm certain the novel is far better.
