Based on the first episode only, this is an intelligent, blackly funny and often genuinely scary take on the over-familiar Bram Stoker novel. AIDS, faith, religious dogma, deception - all these are stirred into the mix, and a left-field cast deliver the lines with a relish that's surprising and very effective. Great direction, cinematography and production design too.
