Remember Ripley? She's shotgunned, grenaded, nuked ALIEN xenomorphs since 1979 with nothing but sweat and fearlessness. And what does the DC franchise give us in 2020?
My wife, my young adult sons on holiday home, and I agree: WW84 is a mess. DC/Marvel/StarWars fans all, we were alternately bored, confused, and grinded to distraction here. The 1980's fashion jokes, over-obvious male lusting, and time-consuming voyages of self-discovery are predictable, sad, and mind-numbing. The film leaves Wonder Woman less a superheroine and more a confused, anxious teenager. Accustomed to the likes of Princess Leia and Black Widow, we were all disappointed in this version of Wonder Woman.
The movie mires down for so long in overworked tropes that it has to speed through the end battle, with superpowered villain Cheetah going through creation to being zapped in under ten minutes while greedy Max Lord comes to realize his mistakes through Wonder Woman's insightful counseling.
See it if you can get it for free. Better yet to nuke it from orbit.
