Good movie but one can't get over the plot holes and the portrayal of the ordinary British soldier as the all-conquering, fearless superhero. There is little fear, little real urgency shown when in truth, historical chronicles of the war in the trenches spoke of fear of the most unimaginable kind. I would have loved to see that reflected in the mine and actions of the two emissaries from the start of the mission. Are they on a leisurely walkabout in the French countryside or in the race against time that motivated a departure in daytime instead of waiting for nightfall? It's almost like a Boys Book adventure story rather than one that occurred in the brutal war described in All Quiet on the Western Front
