The players and developers love different things about the game.
The difference is, only one of the parties gets to implement any change.
Devs have very little contact with any notables personalities or public figures in the game and merely go about their business practices off statistics and metrics.
When they are interviewed, it's constant question dodging and beating around the bush.
Players like having a BiS list, grinding it out and knowing they've maximized their character's potential. This leaves players satisified, not experiencing FOMO and gives them the freedom to persue other avenues of the game.
Developers however, disagree with this type of play and continuously push out useless 'RPG updates' that are horribly received by the public, but receive no change.
Developer's minds are either disillusioned by money, or are simply oblivious to the 21st centuries gamer's objective mindset.
They don't know their market anymore and their ludicrous double standards in regards to balance (see: spec updates of Rogue/Warlock/Mage vs that of Monk/Druid) is just pathetic.
Some of the worst specs in game are the least played? NO WAY?!?!
Quick to nerf any fun, yet specs will have useless stagnant playstyles/skills for years.
I genuinely believe Blizzard have no idea what they're doing in regards to lore, gameplay, the economy and the game's fate going forward, and are just riding out the hype of a company that once had passion.
