This game is amazing for gamers of all types. It's very easy to pick up and just play - case in point, I recently restarted playing the 3DS version and am easily 20 or more hours in and still enjoying all that the game has to offer. I love this game so much I bought two copies so I can experience each of the male suitors' routes and give them their own save slot.
The story is interesting and keeps players engaged, but doesn't force you to do specific things if you don't want to. If you want the majority of the game to be farming and affection among the townsfolk, you can do it. If you want more of the fighting and leveling of yourself and your pet monsters, you can do that, too. If you want both, you can have both! It's one of the things that I love most about Rune Factory. I tried playing Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons, and I just couldn't get into it. Something was missing, and I honestly believe it was the grander aspect of dungeon crawling and fighting. The farming and hobnobbing among the townsfolk just wasn't enough to keep me compelled to keep playing. Rune Factory has it all and more and I love it to pieces, It's one of my favorite games ever. Every time I play, I find something new that gets my attention - a cutscene I hadn't seen prior, or an item or monster that I hadn't met before. I love it, and am eagerly anticipating the new installment.
