I was hopeful that with the changes in voting this year DWTS would go from popularity contest to a dancing contest. Unfortunately I was wrong.
#1 Only half of the country gets to vote the night of the show, the west coast due to time difference are not able to vote and a huge population base is not included.
#2 There should be no place for politics to enter into this show. I have said it years before and I continue to believe that is just another way to divide the country and turn this into another debate. The name dropping and tweets only add to the drama.
#3 The dancing talent is what this show is about, bottom line. Again not a popularity contest. As far as vote and call in, well forget it, the lines are forever busy and now with only the voting going on during the last commercial break, well, what kind of true vote can happen..... NOT.
#4 My thought is that the top scoring couples would automatically be saved. The bottom scoring couples would be the ones in jeopardy with the judges making the decision on who is to be eliminated. Where the voting would come in would be with the remaining couples, so that the whole country could get a chance to vote. This then would be carried over to next week for putting it towards their performance.
When the top couples end up being in the elimination round at the end of the show, and the less than elegant dancers end up staying, something is terribly wrong. I have seen this happen time and time again. I get so much pleasure watching the dancers, gowns, sets, songs etc. but when this much heartache continues to happen each and every year it gets sickening. The smiles and the flatfoot dancing and sad sack stories can only go so far. It turns into a playground pick a team like in elementary school, and just anther form of bullying.
Another sad season and it has just begun to unravel.
