For people who are saying that this book mentions revolutionary nationalists as 'terrorists', have not read the book. Don't believe them. The book quotes directly what they said from various sources. And there is no mention or opinion of the author mentioning them as 'terrorists'.
Second assumption is glorifying Congress. I don't agree with this either. They have pointed out the strengths and weakness and reasonings behind everything anyone did. I don't see any personal vendetta or propaganda in this book.
Third is glorifying Gandhi. Again, strengths and weakness mentioned, reasonings as well. Direct quotes from his colleagues as criticising Gandhi or his politics can go in an entirely different direction and this book doesn't aim to do that.
Also, this book is only secular in it's approach and not communal in any form. It is written by renowned historians who are nationalists in their approach and weigh each issue in matters of it's importance.
I have no idea why some people lack the basic comprehension skills to read in between the lines of this great material which can serve as an effective tool to write brilliant essays and answers.
This book is the struggle for Indian independence and can only go to certain extent maintaining a neutral tone. The author carefully drafts his opinions about communties and mostly quotes from various sources which are mentioned in the back of the book. There are hardly any biases on religion, caste or creed.
I am however disappointed with the fact that this book doesn't have a chapter on the role of women in the freedom struggle. I could only read one or two excerpts but not much can be noticed to frame an opinion. It was almost as if they deliberately omitted it. Also, the contribution of Netaji could have been elaborated in detail. I believe his contributions led to some major changes in the freedom struggle.
The point to read it inbetween the lines and understand what the author wishes to convey. I could see a lot of direct quotes and well researched viewpoints on various issues which can form a good answer if used well as it's written with a remarkable vocabulary. If you feel you have the time and vocabulary and comprehension skills to read this book please go ahead and don't be distracted by wrong notions of amateurs.
