AEW is a diverse wrestling program serving all genres of wrestling such as old school tag team wrestling, comedy wrestling, high flying and over the top spots, hardcore death matches, and so on with long term and interweaving story arcs adding drama and personal stakes to the actual matches.
This is made possible hugely by their equally diverse and talented roster along with the creative freedom they're given. AEW is also better at utilizing the full extent of their roster shuffling them across multiple shows such as Dynamite, Dark and upcoming Rampage as opposed to leaving them on the shelf. This also means that each week we get to see new matchups and stories which makes every episode interesting and not repetitive.
AEW has also done well in having a good mix of both established legends such as Sting, Jericho, Christian as well as building upcoming young talent like Darby, Sammy, MJF and etc. They've also given a spotlight to veteran indie wrestlers such as Eddie Kingston which all in all add up to a diverse and exciting roster for the ages.
On the business end of things AEW has formed working relationships with other wrestling promotions like NWA, Impact and New Japan and opened the so called forbidden door bringing a level of immersion like never before. In doing so they also acknowledge wrestlers achievements, feuds and character growth outside of AEW and having inter-promotional storylines going as far as defending and even changing hands of another promotions title on their show as seen recently with the New Japan US title.
In conclusion, AEW is diverse and entertaining and I highly recommend watching it, especially for lapsed fans who've grown tired of the repetitive and stale (mainstream) wrestling in the past decade or so. Not everything AEW does may necessarily be your cup of tea, but there's enough diversity that there's something for everyone.
