Just finished reading; July 2024. Had seen the mini series was back. A hard read! Dated writing style, repetitive, too descriptive, pretentious and quite boring. Why bother writing in Italian (which I am fluent in) and then translate to English; no need whatsoever as it slows everything down. Action and suspense few and far between entire chapters of technical description. Got through the 702 pages that felt like ‎the 1440 pages of the much better written War and Peace. Could not wait for the ending which was disappointing.

Flop or no flop this is a true masterpiece from Michael Cimino, the award winning director of 'The Deer Hunter'. Magic Hour cinematography by Vilmos Zsigmond is sublime. Whatever other negative reviewers think of it if you are an arthouse film fan see it. All three hours. As a filmmaker myself I see it as a work of art. A future classic.
