I suppose this is more Judas’ story than the Black Messiah’s. The things I consider Hampton a hero and martyr for were dramatically overshadowed by a love story and FBI involvement. I am disappointed in that, because the movie fails to show the potential he truly had. It is clear to portray the FBI’s fear of him, but their reasoning seems weak and based on brainwashing more than on Hampton’s momentum towards a real revolution. But as far as stories of betrayal go, this one did a good job.
