Peter Vercillo

This film is a thorough telling of a post D-Day failure by Allied forces in WWII. It is a vast, epic achievement, in all areas; including music score, cinematography, sound, and film editing. The cast is truly All-Star, and it is remarkable, considereing their shared screen time, how effective each performance is. Richard Attenborough had the monumental task of directing this 3-hour picture. It is quite an accomplishment.

This is a bad movie. The plusses ae the cinematography and costuming. After that, for me, the film started out as "okay,." and went downhill from there. Disney films are now saturated in political correctness, sacrificing entertainment for promoting agendas. Filmmakers, of course, can do what they wish. Sometimes, however, it comes off as an attempt to seek the approval and esteem of "the right people." In that instance, it may sacrifice empathy, and may have difficulty in sustaining interest.

A powerful and informative film. It masters a fine line between presenting factual material while limiting the visual atrocities of the situation. Excellently acted.
