Long story short I went in very skeptical because of how badly they botched Pete’s Dragon but ended up actually paying to see Aladdin twice. If I had the money I’d go again and see it right now. Can’t wait for Blu-ray release. I was worried about them shoving feminist propaganda down my throat and it wasn’t that at all. Yes they gave jasmine depth but she needed it and it helped the sorry. I’m all about equality and all but not at the cost of story. They didn’t do that at all here. Now I don’t know who else could have possibly done a better job as the Genie then Will Smith with the exception of Williams himself. So I was glad to see it. SPOILER ALERT ENDING
I think they could have picked a better actor for jafar and could have made him scarier when he turns into a genie. Also they skipped the snake transformation scene which I was really looking forward to. They also removed jafars song when he reveals Aladdin’s true self to Jasmine. I wish they kept it but it also may have made him come off even less evil then he already did. Which didn’t work for me as a little boy I always pictured Jafar as the worst of the worst of Disney villains. I think jafar is a huge reason I loved this movie above all other Disney movies as a kid. So bad news for jafar fans but I will still watch both this and the original on repeat any day of the week.
