A poorly executed edit ruins the storyline. There's hardly any development of the frienship between the two children. The dad is supposed to be surly after the death of his wife, but he seems pretty cheerful to me. An ex-husband of the love-interest shows up halfway through the movie, but there's no consequence to his visit and we never see him again. Meh.
