Jennifer De Castro

I was excited to see this movie when it was announced, but I ended up leaving halfway through the movie. The main character was unlikeable, the political messaging was heavy handed (even though I agreed with it personally), and the soundtrack was just awful.

The movie is poorly paced and jumps haphazardly from scene to scene without any context of what's going on in the rest of the world. It was hard to get invested in the story because there's simply no storytelling, just a series of vaguely connected vignettes featuring the same characters. The message seemed to be that Napoleon was a monster, but other than some extremely creepy (and awkwardly long) scenes with Josephine there's really not much to condemn him shown on screen. It wasn't even clear that was what Ridley Scott intended the theme to be.
