Just watched the movie Songbird and it was actually really good! It's ridiculous that reviewers were saying the film was exploitative or disrespectful to those who lost their lives during the pandemic. I understand how the subject matter could be triggering to some the obvious recommendation is don't watch it if you know it will trigger you to see anything referencing the pandemic! It is a film that references the Covid pandemic and uses it as a backdrop to tell a well paced and interesting story in my opinion. The cinematography captured the themes of isolation and emptiness that many cities exuded when we were on full lock down. It's not dark or hopeless and it didn't show a bunch of people dying of Covid like some reviews indicated. It's idiotic that this film got a %9 score on rotten tomatoes. I do think they shouldn't have marketed the trailer as if it was a face paced action flick because it's not. It's slower paced and a bit more nuanced though it picks up in the third act. I thought it was a love story told in an innovative way that also explored how the quarantine could affect the psyche of different types of people. You should check it out for yourself with an open mind.
