The one thing the BBC used to be able to make was great period dramas. Summer of Rockets has been truly dire. Terrible pseudo-vintage interiors ; apart from a couple of performers utterly shoddy, unconvincing acting and fake "plummy" accents. Then there's the ludicrously unbelievable plot elements almost Enid-Blytonesque, and the villains in this spy drama...not Russians or Nazis but posh British patriots and Tories who want to defeat the "reds" and salvage the British Empire (all right wing antisemites, naturally) plus a good dose of stereotypically racist British police, and a good helping of social guidance on leftist values. Clare Bloom adds a touch of class and Keeley Hawes is dependably jolly-hockey-sticks. But it's really very poor.
