I was originally gonna give this movie five stars but after going through and seeing a handful of one star reviews with valid points, I decided to leave it at 4. Apparently you either love it or hate it, and I personally loved it! I think the people who hated it are the ones who went in expecting jump scares, blood/gore, and pure terror; a typical horror movie whose fear is cued and built up with a dreadful orchestra symphony. If that’s what you want, skip this movie and go see I Know What You Did Last Summer. Now for my 2¢. I watched the movie Together a few days prior and Weapons fits into a similar category but offers a lot more. Think Jordan Peele films. The movie has just as much drama as it does horror. It’s not a clear cut, cookie cutter horror Hollywood movie. The plot is complex and the storyline is layered. Still it’s easy to follow when watching, but you will look like the meme with the crazy guy in front of a board with red yarn connecting ideas if you try to tell it to explain it to a friend. It’s a see for yourself type deal. I love how 1.) the trailer didn’t completely give it all away 2.) characters who you least expect end up playing vital roles 3.) actors aren’t overly dramatic 4.) you can’t anticipate everything 5.) there’s a resolution If you go see this, be open minded and patient. It’s definitely a must see but as to whether it a must see in theaters where money and convenience is involved, is clearly up for debate.
