I was blown away by this novel. I can’t believe it’s a debut. As someone who grew up in Virginia and spent her summers traveling further south, this story completely transported me to my childhood and to all the reasons I love coastal towns. The author clearly had a great knowledge of local ecological issues and included them in a way that didn’t bog down the story. Her coverage of Camille’s grief had me in tears and her description of Camille’s meals had my mouth watering. This is such a beautiful new voice in Southern fiction. I highly recommend this book. It’s the perfect winter read for when you’re missing the warm weather.
