A comparative read would be “The girl at the Lion d’Or” by Sebastian Faulks. Similar themes if you are studying Tender is the night!
I found ‘Tender is the night’ not as engaging but when I came back to it later after reading Faulks, I had a better understanding. I only wish it wasn’t 10 years after I graduated.
