This movie is undeniably objectively great. The editing, the cinematography, the director, the pacing. It’s all great…but this story touched things within me that I’d rather had been left alone. That’s not to say anything about “mother” but that I think this movie wasn’t for me. I was hoping and praying that Shuhei would say no and leave, tell them his mother did it, anything just to bring a little bit of justice but he didn’t and I think that’s what adds to the realism of the movie. To how far a Neglected and abused child would go for the abuser because that’s all he’s ever known. While watching the movie you can’t help but feel hopeless watching shuhei do bad thing after bad thing for his mother. After everything she’s put him through and all the horrible men that she brought into his life my hate towards her and her psychotic gaze only grew stronger and stronger and at the end of the show while she’s being told something about shuhei without spoiling anything, she had this deeply unsettling face that just infuriated me.
This movie is great, if you love a unique story that feels very real yet extraordinary at the same time I would definitely recommend but to definitely tread carefully if you have experienced childhood abuse or negligence as at times it feels all to real.
7.8/10 - “Mother”
Not for me and my heart and won’t be watching again anytime soon but I think that says something about how impactful the story is wether in a bad or good way.
