Rant Time
I hope you brought your reading glasses.
*cracks knuckles*
For context, I'm a huge MCU nerd. I really enjoy Marvel's humor in their movies, and their attempts at plot twists (despite the superhero genre being a difficult one to shake up). I loved Phases 1, 2, and 3.
This. Was. Horrible.
I wish I could take back the 4.5 hours I wasted waiting for some sign of intelligent plot, character development, or literally ANYTHING other than the political indoctrination, polarizing racial themes, and lazy screenwriting that made up this incredibly disappointing series (and yes, 4.5 hours is less than the series' total run time. That's because before I reached the final episode, I choked to death on all the woke political agenda Disney was shoving down my throat).
We get it. You have beliefs. We all do.
LET US WATCH AN INTERESTING SERIES IN PEACE without all the degrading stereotypes and exhausting lectures.
(*spoilers but read anyway because this show is not worth watching and you can't spoil a show that has no plot*)
Brief Highlight Reel of Disappointment:
-Sam is reduced to a guy who can't get a loan from a bank to fix his family's old boat. Wow. As a show apparently bent on fixing racism, that's grossly racist.
-Cops are depicted as bumbling, racist idiots.
-Bucky is weak. So weak. He had amazing action sequences showcasing his strength when he fought basically everyone one-on-one in Civil War, but now he can't take down radical babies who sipped super-soldier serum. He was an assassin before this, guys.
To be completely fair:
Highlight Reel of Decent Moments:
-Zemo.
-Zemo again.
-Zemo dancing in a club, Zemo revealing he's rich, and Zemo driving his fancy car.
When Sam and Bucky have to be in counseling and the *few* moments when they get to banter, there are some laughs. Not enough to get you through the long, convoluted, racially charged lack of plot, but still.
-The fact that Sam does FINALLY take the shield in the end IS good, but the show's BBC-Drama-level trek to finally get there was poorly written and lined with the graves of fans like me who gave up along the way.
The plot (if there was ever one intended for this) could be summed up as "Sam gets shield, Sam doesn't think he should have shield, Sam decides to keep shield even though he clearly isn't a fan of America."
Wouldn't recommend, won't be re-watching.
Now don't mind me, I'm going to just pretend this disaster of a series doesn't exist anymore, and hopefully I can forget all about Captain America's shield being used to publicly execute someone.
Rant over.
