It was a good film. There is definitely a lot to praise here. I think most people will enjoy it. Sadly I found it also contained the most phenomenally racist line in a movie of this type that I’ve ever encountered. Half way through the movie Selina Kyle aka “cat woman” blames ALL the ills of Gotham on “privileged white men”. That is such an incredibly racist statement to make I’m still shocked by it. And it changed the tone of the movie. Gotham is corrupt because of ‘white men’. That’s what she says. How race was brought into a Batman movie I’ll never understand. But it was. And from that moment you realise the move. You realise the young black kid being forced to join in the otherwise all evil all white gang of thugs is because of white racists. All the corrupt coppers in Gotham are corrupt - except officer Gordon. All the coppers are white except Gordon. Whose black, The white male mayor is corrupt. The mayor after him is a black female who is portrayed as almost saint like. All the baddies are white for goodness sake! The only good white people in the entire film are Batman and Alfred. Which the writers of the movie would have probably liked to have changed as well but would have struggled to have changed such characters for obvious reasons. However white Batman only survives because a black female saves him. So sadly. For its unacceptable anti white racism this film gets a 1 out of 10. For the record. I’m not white. I just deplore ALL racism.
