Epic Poe tale, told in modern fashion, is a return to the ghostly, macabre, fantasy world, that Flanagan made himself famous for, with highly successful first Netflix Halloween series “The Haunting of Hillhouse”. Storyline is based on a modern retelling of horror classic short story by the same title, and though missing a couple of notably players such as breakout member of the original ensemble, Victoria Pedretti, but with a couple of excellent new additions like Bruce Greenwood, and a fantastic performance from Mark Hamil, as the creepy family attorney. Plenty of jump scares, but at it’s heart, another tale of a complicated family, with complicated lives, brought together admirably by Flanagan, and his team.
