The anime is much more impactful and tragically depressing.

As per the Indian Law, it takes one complaint from a wife against her in laws to make them rot in jail for months with the victim given full protection under the law. The problem is not in the shows depiction of backward mentality of the in-laws but the inactive nature of the "educated female protagonist". The second problem is the normalization of Stockholm Syndrome. The marriage is forced on the woman in this show. Let's not show her falling for a spineless impotent idiot. That never happens. It actually goes against female biology [as far as the studies show] to fall for someone less educated, less intelligent, less economic status, less influential than her. It's the same old nonsense. Regressive mindset. Emotional nonsense.
